Jennifer Custer, BA Jackie Schilling Certificate of Commendation Winner
The Jackie Schilling Certificate of Commendation was established to recognize non-physicians who have contributed to the advancement of family medicine in the state of Indiana. In 1999, the award was named after past IAFP Executive Vice President Jackie Schilling. The Indiana Academy of Family Physicians is happy to name Jennifer Custer as recipient of the 2024 Jackie Schilling Certificate of Commendation.
Ms. Custer is a graduate of DePauw University and a former Public Health Community Organizer in Honduras with the United States Peace Corps. She joined the staff of the Indiana University Medical School in 2000 where she has worked for most of the last 25 years. Jennifer has committed her career to medical education - she currently serves as a Programs Manager for Underserved Medicine and ENLACE Global Health Initiative.
Some may say that Jennifer is partially responsible for the decision that many students make when they choose family medicine, as she is the mastermind behind the operation of placing nearly 400 third year family medicine clerkship students each year. We know this experience can make or break a student’s decision to choose family medicine - few can say they have had a hand in the direction of so many. Dr. Custers colleague writes, “Jennifer is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals. She has played a pivotal role in mentoring students while offering both guidance and support. Her passion for education has helped shape the careers of many aspiring medical professionals who carry forward her legacy.”
The IAFP congratulates Jennifer Custer on her selection for the Jackie Schilling Certificate of Commendation, and we thank her for her commitment to furthering education for family physicians in Indiana.
